A California YMCA program is helping high school students to become greater involved within state politics.
The California YMCA Youth & Government Conference hosted 3,500 students at the state Capitol building and allowed the attendees to build and conduct their own government.
Acting as delegates, the students can campaign for elected positions or assume roles such as political party leaders.
The program allows students to advocate for a wide variety of issues while cultivating their desire for politics.
“If we really want to live in a society that we can love and appreciate, we have to be the ones that help create the rules,” said attendee Jared Savage, a graduating senior.
