California Empty Govt. Properties to Be Used to House Homeless Individuals and Families

California will be designating 286 empty state buildings to be used as housing for the state’s population of homeless individuals and families, announced Governor Newsom this month.

“Let’s call it what it is, a disgrace, that the richest state in the richest nation … is failing to properly house, heal and humanely treat so many of its own people,” he said during his State of the State address, as reported by Reuters.

According to state data, California’s homeless population went up by 16 percent in 2019.

Local governments will take hold of the state properties “at no cost” to be used to house homeless individuals and families.
