Builders Mutual recently announced the establishment of a nonprofit organization called Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI), a milestone decision that could serve as an example for labor industries everywhere. JSI will conduct safety research and work towards improving the safety and overall working conditions for residential and commercial job sites.

Through a number of grants and partnerships, JSI will produce studies focused on setting new safety standards and practices, as well as raise consciousness about worker behavior.

Mike Gerber, the senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Builders Mutual, stated that the company has “an opportunity, if not an obligation, to support and guide efforts of specialized industry research and education to promote safety while at work.”

JSI is currently partnered with a number of educational institutions and industry regulators. Current partnerships include the National Association of Home Builders, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and East Carolina University Department of Construction Management.
