Florida environmental officials are concerned new budget cuts will eliminate programs that protect the water, air, and land quality in the state.
A new report from the Environmental Defense Fund outlined the reductions in federal aid that will negatively impact the third most-populous state in the US.
Based on the proposed budget cuts, toxic waste cleanups and air quality studies throughout Florida will be greatly diminished.
“We’re facing a real tipping point in terms of whether or not this kind of support will continue to be available to the state of Florida and to its counties,” said Elgie Holstein, senior director of the Environmental Defense Fund.
“These public health (programs) on which the state has so long relied are now in severe jeopardy,” he added.
