Bay Area Local Patron of the Arts to Receive Berkeley Community Fund Award

Director and co-founder of the Kala Art Institute, Archana Horsting, will be awarded Berkeley’s Benjamin Ide Wheeler Medal, or “Most Useful Citizen” award this upcoming Oct. 8. Horsting will join the ranks of prestigious honorees, including Alice Waters and Wavy Gravy, for her work on creating a shared community space for artists in Berkeley and the greater Bay Area. Horsting’s organization, the Kala Art Institute, has become a beloved institution over the past 41 years, fostering visual arts by offering classes, exhibitions, and selective fellowships to the local art community.
