America Divided on Impact of Higher Education in the U.S.

According to a new study from Pew Research Center, only half of Americans believe higher education is working to create positive change in the country.

Approximately four out of ten believed that higher education is having a negative impact on the country, which indicates a 12 percentage point increase in those who don’t trust higher education since 2012.

The majority of those are Republicans and Independents who lean Republican, while Democrats largely believe in higher education as an essential tool in life.

The reasons for which they believe higher education is going in the wrong direction differ, with Democrats citing high costs as one of the biggest issues, and Republicans citing the political and social views of professors getting in the way.
