Air Pollution Linked with Increase in Number of Respiratory Infection

A new study in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that air pollution, even in smaller amounts, is particularly harmful to toddlers.

Acute respiratory infection is found to be one of the leading causes of illness and death in small children, due to the fact that children’s bodies are still developing.

Researchers found that people living in Utah, including many children, were more likely to be diagnosed with respiratory infections following periods of higher air pollution levels.

Air pollution levels were monitored closely and researchers examined data on more than 146,000 people living in Utah. Researchers discovered proportionate increases between increasing levels of air pollution and the number of cases of persons with respiratory infections.
