Adoption Rates Drop Across the Globe

Due to newly imposed laws and legislation, adoption both within and outside of the U.S. is drastically decreasing while the need for foster care continues to rise.

With the stigma of single motherhood quickly dissolving in the U.S., in 2014, only 18,000 children under the age of two were placed for adoption.

Meanwhile, the State Department noted that only 5,400 children were adopted from another country in 2016 due to greater imposed laws.

However, children within the U.S. continue to need foster care as 428,000 children in 2015 needed the services.

Child development experts found that increased drug and opioid use among adult U.S. citizens has caused more children to enter the foster care system.
