$100 Million in Grants Set to Revitalize Indiana Arts and Culture

In a calculated “vote of confidence” for arts and culture institutions of Indiana, the Lilly Endowment, one of the nation’s largest private foundations, donated $100 million in grants to 14 arts nonprofits throughout the state. The gift includes, but is not limited to, separate $10-million gifts to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Zoological Society.

Some of the recipient organizations, like the Indiana Repertory Theatre, hope the money will attract more investment from other philanthropists. Others, like the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, hope it will reduce their reliance on sales revenue.
