President Obama’s veto of the 9/11 Victims bill was overturned by the Senate.

The legislation will give families of victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks the right to sue Saudi Arabia for plotting the attacks.

The overwhelming vote was a final count of 348 to 77.

One of the supporters and authors of the bill, Senator Charles E. Schumer said “families of the victims of 9/11 [will] be allowed to pursue justice, even if that pursuit causes some diplomatic discomforts.”

President Obama and those who supported the veto argued that the legislation would pose dangers to the Department of Defense, exposing them to the same lawsuits, and would also pose serious consequences for U.S. foreign affairs.
