While technology appears to draw people apart, in major cities it is bringing people together, Frank Rose writes for The New Yorker.
In major cities like San Francisco and New York, technology has played a significant role in drawing people together in overcrowded spaces, and yet has allowed them to navigate the saturated world around them more efficiently. Smartphone apps facilitate the flow of productivity by helping people navigate the growing population of city dwellers.
According to a report from the United Nations, at least three-fourths of the people in Europe live in cities, and in North and South America, 8 out of every 10 people live in cities. As all cities continue to grow, technology becomes a more crucial extension to citizens who will continue to navigate a heavy influx of information and people.
