As the latest initiative in her long-term endeavors in educational philanthropy, Laurene Powell Jobs has launched a college-support program at Jordan High School in the Watts neighborhood of LA, an extension of her nonprofit, College Track. Founded in East Palo Alto, College Track supports low-income high school students during the college admission process with academic support, financial advice, leadership training, and more.

College Track’s program at Jordan High School will support 55 students during its first cycle, but is striving to reach 300 by 2019. The organization’s other program in Los Angeles, located at Roosevelt High in Boyle Heights, is expected to reach 300 students by 2016.

The launch of this new program comes in the wake of Jobs’ highly publicized announcement to embark on a $50-million project to remodel the American high school.
