This week, the House voted in favor of blocking internet privacy rules passed by the FCC last year under Obama.
The opposition to the FCC rules was led by Republicans, who argued that the rules are “too costly” and “confusing” for internet providers.
President Trump is expected to sign the law, which will dismantle FCC regulations that were created to protect consumers against companies who collect and use their information on the internet, to then sell to advertisers.
Republicans argued that FCC rules didn’t apply to big companies, like Google and Facebook who collect the same data on users.
Supporters of the FCC regulations say that the rules protected internet user privacy, and that providers should not have access to consumer data to sell to advertisers.
