Fidget Spinners Do Not Minimize ADHD Symptoms

Fidget spinners are infiltrating classrooms to help students cope with ADHD, but experts state the toy may not be effective in minimizing symptoms.

While the gadget may aid some individuals in maintaining mental focus, psychologists state that there is no scientific evidence to support the effective nature of fidget spinners.

The toy was marketed to minimize anxiety in children with ADHD but quickly became banned in classrooms for distracting other students.

“Mental illness is difficult to treat, and it’s not something for which there are simple solutions,” said Dr. David Anderson who works for the ADHD and Behavioral Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute in New York.

“The most frequent thing we say to parents with an unfortunately disheartened tone is that if something appears like it’s an easy fix for mental health difficulties, it’s probably too good to be true,” he explained.
